Vintage Sizing Guide

Because vintage apparel was manufactured under different historical sizing standards, tag sizes do not align with modern clothing. To ensure a perfect fit, we recommend ignoring the size tag entirely and shopping strictly by actual garment measurements.

Every item in our collection is meticulously measured by hand, laid flat. Below is our guide on how to measure your own well-fitting clothing to compare with our listings.

Key Measuring Rules

Use a soft tape: Always use a flexible fabric measuring tape.

Lay flat: Place your garment on a hard, flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles.

Do not pull: Measure the item in its natural resting state without pulling or stretching the fabric.

Denim & Bottoms (Jeans, Shorts, Skirts)

To find your measurements for vintage denim, select a pair of 100% cotton, non-stretch jeans from your wardrobe that fit you well.

  • Waist: Measure across the very top of the waistband from corner to corner, then double that number. (Example: A 14" flat measurement equals a 28" waist).
  • Hips: Measure across the widest part of the hips, typically located just below the base of the zipper or fly, then double that number.

  • Rise: Measure vertically from the crotch seam straight up to the top of the front waistband. This determines where the jeans sit on your torso.
  • Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam down the inside of the leg to the bottom hem.

Tops, Jackets & Vests

Select a similar style garment from your wardrobe that offers the exact fit you desire (e.g., tailored vs. oversized).

  • Chest / Bust: Measure directly across the front from armpit seam to armpit seam, then double that number.
  • Length: Measure vertically from the highest point of the shoulder (near the collar) straight down to the bottom hem.
  • Sleeve Length: Measure from the top shoulder seam down to the edge of the cuff.

Cowboy Boots

Vintage boots can vary widely in width and toe shape, which significantly impacts fit.

  • Sizing Notes: We list the stamped size whenever it is legible. If the size is missing or heavily worn, we provide an estimated modern equivalent based on fit tests.
